FAQ

Are elephant sanctuaries in Thailand ethical?

The ethics of elephant sanctuaries in Thailand can vary depending on the specific sanctuary and its practices. While there are many reputable and ethical elephant sanctuaries in Thailand that prioritize the well-being and welfare of elephants, unfortunately, there are also establishments that engage in unethical practices.

We at Phangan Elephant Sanctuary stand for the ethical treatment of elephants. No elephant bathing, no elephant riding, no elephant shows, no chains, and no forced elephant selfies.

What to wear to elephant sanctuary?

Comfortable Clothing: Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting clothes that allow ease of movement. Choose breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen, especially in warm weather. Avoid tight or restrictive clothing as you may be engaging in activities like walking or bathing elephants.

Closed-Toe Shoes: Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes or sneakers that provide stability and protect your feet. This is important as you may be walking on uneven terrain or interacting with elephants in close proximity.

Long Pants or Capris: It is advisable to wear long pants or capris to protect your legs from potential scratches or insect bites, especially if you’re engaging in activities like walking through vegetation or sitting near the elephants.

Layered Clothing: Consider layering your clothing, as temperatures can vary throughout the day. This allows you to adjust your attire accordingly and ensures you stay comfortable.

Sun Protection: Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and applying sunscreen to exposed areas of skin. This is crucial, especially in outdoor environments, to prevent sunburn and overheating.

Modest Attire: As a sign of respect, avoid wearing revealing or provocative clothing. Choose outfits that cover your shoulders and avoid low-cut tops or shorts.
